Hanukah 2023 events

Hanukah – the festival of miracles and wonders, is approaching, and this year, in the middle of the Swords of Iron War, the festival takes on special significance. Just like every year, the Netanya Municipality is holding events, candle lighting, and activities for children and all the family:

• There will be a fun Hannukah happening every evening in Atzmaut Square for all ages, and candle lighting every evening at 5 p.m., and on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
  
• Thursday, December 7 – At 6.30 p.m., a tribute to the security and rescue forces
• The Netanya Police, Israel Fire and Rescue services, MDA, and more, in an impressive display of their strength, accompanied by the Israel Police Orchestra and a range of workshops and activities for children.
• Saturday night, December 9 – Candle lighting and the story of the courage of soldier Yinon Jamil who was injured in battle and returned to fight in the war. 
• Sunday, December 10, 4-6 p.m., arts and crafts with the Israel Antiquities Authority: a menorah with mosaics, the magic of the Hasmoneans coins, painting jugs and clay candles. At 5.30 p.m., there will be a colorful, musical performance “Lia, Guardian of the Forest.” 
• Monday, December 11, from 5 p.m., light, fire, and acrobatics displays with Pyromania, and the launch of the new sound and light performance at the water fountain.
• Tuesday, December 12, 5-7 p.m., activities having your picture taken with Maccabees, displays, and living statues of Hanukah heroes.
• Wednesday, December 13 – Singing Israeli with artist and creator Yoni Roeh and stars of the Sitar Music School.
• The Netanya History Museum will also hold a range of activities for all the family during the Hanukah holiday. 
• We came to drive away the darkness! – Lantern tours for all the family. Meet at the Atzmaut Square (next to the Havatzelet fountain), for the telling of the stories of the ma’apilim (“illegal” immigrants) and miracles together with riddles, board games, and all kinds of surprises.  
• Light in the square – A graffiti tour together with a visit to the Museum of Yemenite Jewish Heritage. 
• Hasmonean coins – An arts and crafts workshop and a story for Hanukah. The children will create coins and holiday symbols from aluminum – such as a menorah, jugs of oil and candles, and then will hear stories about the ancient coins. 
• Fun navigating of the story of the city – A family orienteering game (independent) – the story of Netanya’s history will be told on your smartphone, alongside riddles at the city's various and unique stations. The activity will be held throughout the festival.
• A glittering escape room for families, with advance registration – the room tells the mystery of a bag of diamonds which has disappeared from the museum, and the participants must find it, while dealing with mazes and various problems, until the sought-after solution. The activity will be held throughout the festival.
• The activity in the escape room joins a whole range of unique activities for all the family held regularly at the City Museum. The activities include an interactive game, The Founders’ Room, a pioneers’ floor game, dressing up and having your photo taken with an ancient camera, and a whole range of more smiling attractions.
• ​Planetanya – The center for information, culture, and space in Netanya will hold special activities for visitors on Hanukah, including: the next generation of space, a science magic performance with Dr. Molecule, tours of the Science Garden and, of course, a festive candle lighting and star show at the planetarium.
