Welcome to first grade

​  23,828 students in the elementary schools, and 18,193 students in the junior high schools and high schools. 3,468 children will begin 1st grade​.

Netanya – Winner of the National Education Prize – is beginning the year in the education system​​​​​​​

Netanya, winner of the National Education Prize, is opening the school year with emphasis on a new local authority perspective which views the entire city as one setting for learning – changing from “From a school in the city to the city as a school”. A city which is transforming into one large school, in which a tapestry of connections is being woven between the schools and the wide range of municipal resources which surround them. The schools will burst out of their physical and pedagogic borders and become a central player in the link between community and environmental action in the city setting.

To strengthen the sense of belonging to the city and develop the Netanya identity, an additional broad program, named “Masa Netanyanti” (A journey in Netanya), has been created by the Education Administration, and around 30,000 students will participate in it this year. The stations on the journey discuss the water problem, wiser consumer education, dealing with waste, sustainability, birdwatching, citizen and resident rights, giving, well-being, science and technology, and more.

As every year, the Netanya education system is renewing with new construction of educational institutions and broad summer renovations, intended to provide solutions to the rise in the number of students in the city and to give them an up-to-date and aesthetic learning environment.

New construction 

As part of its preparations for the 5784 (2023/24) school year, the municipality has built several new educational institutions:

In Kiryat Hamada (Agam Gimmel), a new 24-class school named after soldier Natan Elbaz of blessed memory, will open this year, and is intended to provide a solution for the children of the new neighborhood. Likewise, another 3 preschool classes will open in the neighborhood, in Sigmund Freud Street, after 2 additional preschool classes opened during the past school year.

Two new preschool classes have been built in Yitzhak Sadeh St., 6 in Schmorak St. in Neot Shaked, 2 in Sorek St. in the Agamim neighborhood, and work will be completed on a new entrance to the Yonatan School from the south side.

Under construction – 3 sports halls which will open during 2024: in the Leah Goldberg, Hillel Tzur, and Haim Hefer schools.

The municipality has also begun building a new elementary school in Radak St. which will be named after author and satirist, Ephraim Kishon.

​The school will contain 24 classrooms, support spaces, a library, and a multipurpose space which will be used in the afternoons for the benefit of the students and community. It should be noted that the school is being built according to standards of up-to-date pedagogy, and will meet the strict standards of green building.

Also under construction: an addition of 6 classrooms to the Or Lezion educational institution, an addition of 6 homeroom classrooms which will be spread over 1500 square meters to the Carlebach State Religious School in the Ir Yamim neighborhood, and also 2 preschool classrooms in the Neve Itamar neighborhood with an additional community support bubble on the top floor.

Upgrading the learning environment

Many renovations were carried out in hundreds of preschools and also in schools. The work was performed as required and with professional considerations, while also taking into account pedagogic needs and the maintenance situation of each building. The work included new plumbing, acoustic ceilings in line with safety regulations, flooring as required in educational institutions, and new doors. The primary emphasis was on safety and completing all the elements required in the Ministry of Education Director General's Circular, along with attention paid to improving the appearance of the institution facade, landscaping including lawns and paving, upgrading existing systems, developing modern learning environments, and more.
