Iasi is the capital of the Iasi Province in the Principality of Moldavia, located in north-eastern Romania. The city's population is 450,000 people (as of 2006) and is the third largest Romanian city. The city hosts a large number of academic institutes. The Iasi University is named after Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza who established it in 1860, and is the first Romanian University. Iasi boasts well known, expansive parks such at the Copou Park, the lively botanical garden and others.
Another famous attraction is the Union Square (Piata Unirii) surrounded by hotels and decorated with fountains and greenery. Here you will find the National Theater and the Trei Lerarchi Chapel, with a Star of David embedded into one of its walls.
