Right before summer vacation - the children of the Green Leadership Committee, representatives of first-sixth grades of the Yigal Allon Young Music Academy, enjoyed an activity on Poleg Beach. The trip was taken in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Department and Beach Administration of Netanya Municipality.
The children, together with the Committee Coordinator, Orit Muka-Blitental, with Navot Inbar, representative of the Green Network, and three mothers from the school went on an educational trip to heighten awareness about keeping Poleg Beach clean.
After eating breakfast together and playing in the sand, the children met Kfir in the lifeguard tower, who taught them about the importance of following the lifeguard's instructions, including the rules to keep the water and beach clean. He emphasized that the rules save lives every single day and, not only human lives, but the lives of the animals that live in the sea and on the beach as well.
After a fascinating explanation, the children broke up into groups and got beachgoers to sign an environmental pact to keep the beaches clean and protect the variety of existing species on the beaches and in the sea. The young leaders even explained to the beachgoers that by signing, they were committing to uphold the pact and so every single signature is important. The beachgoers took it seriously and were happy to sign without any reservations.
It was very moving to see how the beachgoers cooperated and hear the detailed explanations the young leaders provided on keeping the beach clean for the sake of people, animals and plants.
At the end of the activity, the leadership left a sign and a pact for signatures at one of the lifeguard towers, with the hope that many others would sign it, and most importantly, that they would actually follow the guidelines, as they committed to do.
Marina Elisha, Director of Netanya Municipality’s Department of Environmental Education, said, “We view mentoring schoolchildren on this issue as very important, as it heightens awareness of protecting the environment in the public and private spheres, encourages activism and promotes environmental and social ventures.
